Over stove microwave

It looks like the vent/fan is in the back which means it should be possible to remove the hood.

Look on the bottom to see if this is one piece or several. Use a utility knife to cut the edges between metal and wall. Then use a pry bar to pull the metal/plywood away.

How are you going to mount the microwave? And plug it in?

You could use a shelf, but you'll have to check with microwave model. I know that my sister has a microwave above her range and the thing doesn't work properly when the range is on because of the heat. I believe the above range microwaves have a bracket.

Consider a microwave drawer. It will take some of your cabinet space. Reaching up to get a hot item -- what were they thinking?

Most "above stove" microwaves come with a mounting bar. Not hard to do at all but does take two people to set the microwave in place after the bar is secured. I did mine with little effort and the only thing I had to do was cut a hole in the bottom of my cupboard for the cord to pass thru to the outlet.

If I had it to do over I would not have an over the range microwave Too much heat goes up to the microwave from the stove

We had a over the range microwave when we moved in and I hated it. It stuck out into my face and blocked my view of the back of the stove where the knobs where. It was the correct size and made especially for this use.

Think how nice it will be to have that extra cupboard space. LOL. That is where I keep tea pots, pancake syrup and cooking oil.

If you have not purchased a micro wave yet, Be sure you can change the light bulb without taking it down. I found that out the hard way. The light bulb in my model requires the TOP to be removed, which requires taking it down first. Totally crazy. So we have a small flash light that sits by it on the counter. NO way am I paying an $80. service call to change a light bulb, and I cannot do it by myself.

It is still safer to check with an electrician before mounting a Microwave.

The plugs need to be checked, and also safe to have the correct electrical outlet.

I had a neighbor who made the mistake of doing one herself, and her whole oven/Stove caught fire. Sometimes we don't see what an Electrician Sees.

I added a microwave over my stove and love the extra counter space .where we bought it they install it also .Need a special plug .have a cabinet over microwave . They will come and measure for you .that is the safe way to do it .

Since we installed our over the stove microwave I love the fact that I have more counter space but now I have very, very limited stove top space. I cannot use tall stock pots due to the pot almost touching the bottom of the microwave. Be sure to measure the distance between stove top and bottom of microwave. Can you larger pots fit??

If I ever get the opportunity to remodel my kitchen I would have a microwave shelf. Another idea to ponder.....

THINK HARD ABOUT THIS! I will never have an over the range microwave again. I removed the one I had and put in a fan vented to the outside. The fans in the microwaves are useless. That's the kindest thing I can say. Regardless of how small your kitchen is please explore all your options.

If indeed the vent fan is in the back of the existing vent cover you need to be sure that you provide for that. It likely will need to be above that or at least put a shelf & provide access from your replacement hood to the exhaust fan. You must have an exhaust of some sort & the vent hood is to capture the heat & steam so it doesn’t go all over the house.

We love our over the stove microwave and purchased it (along with all of our appliances) at a scratch and dent place so we had to install it ourselves. It behoves me why anyone would want to have a microwave. They're not good for your health or the environment and they deplete the food of nutrients. We had a microwave starting with the Amanda "Radarange" and one or two after that. We dumped our OTS AMANA several years ago. Don't miss it one bit. Plus we're eating much healthier since then.
