A few more details would be helpful. If you are cutting your neighbor's tree, any branches that extend into your yard (that you don't like) can be cut without gaining permission as they are essentially 'yours'. You could always talk to your neighbor and just mention that you are going to trim the branches that are overhanging your yard. However, If you are calling in a tree crew, with permits, to strip one side of your neighbors tree off, I would definitely talk to your neighbor, because you could irreparably damage his tree and could cause the tree to be unbalanced, unhealthy, and lead to it's untimely demise.
first talk to the neighbor and let them know what you want to do. legally, if the branches cross the property line, you can trim them back
Do you have a question for us?
If your neighbors branches are on your property ,just cut them back
ABSOLUTELY talk to your neighbor first!!!! I just spent $1500 to have my 75 year old maple tree taken down because my idiot neighbor took out half of it with a chain saw.
