Should I paint this table?

I have chalk painted and distressed the dining room buffet and had intended to do the table as well but am now feeling that it would look too matching, like a set. Would appreciate others’ thoughts.

Paint the legs and the apron. There is nothing wrong with your server and the table looking like they belong together.

For me (and this just my personal preference and not intended to be for everyone), the real "art" in design is bringing together unlike pieces and having them look cohesive. I'm not a matchy, matchy person; love the eclectic.

If there is an element that you think would bring the two together, then do it OR leave it as is. Whichever works for you.

I’m not a matchy person either. Thus my dilemma. I think the cream chairs are enough to bring the buffet colour into the design. My sense is that the painted table would be overdone.

I think I would paint the legs and the apron too actually. I don't think it would be too matchy matchy but definitely do only what speaks to your heart :) Maybe live with it like it is for awhile and see how it feels to you?

Exactly. Once I do that first brush stroke, it’s a point of no return. Think I’ll just ponder it awhile longer. Thank you for your comments.

You could always paint it a different pallette of colors ie: distressed mint legs and distressed butterscotch or peach top. Or not distressed. :p

Paint it! If it's not a set it won't look like one &I think it would look good the color of your buffet&tiecthe room together.

Oh my, the problem is, it is a set that I’m trying to not look like one but to look more eclectic, like I pulled complementary pieces together. There are two other pieces in the room—an antique linen cabinet and a walnut china cabinet. I appreciate your comments. Thank you.

Paint just the legs and the apron around the table to match the buffet. That should be enough to tie it together yet not look so matchie-matchie.

That was my original intention. It’s the matching that is holding me back. Feedback like yours is helping to confirm that it shouldn’t be an issue. I appreciate your comments. Thank you.

I think the chairs are a bit heavy for the room / maybe paint the base of the table, and switch out the side chairs. Just my 2 cents :-)

Personally, I wouldn't paint your beautiful table or your chairs. There are several things you can do to add a brighter look to your room with dark walls, etc. You can use covers for the tops of your chairs or the whole chairs.....a fabric that would add additional color to this room (of what I can see of the room) and still not be be so matchy with the rest of the room. You can add some things to the blank wall to the left of the the buffet. If you can't decide what you want to do, please go shopping. Look at: material, decorating items for the walls, and etc. Then, you will see what you want for your room. Whatever you decide to do, only the best to you. Kudos!

I think it is a beautiful table, at most I would paint the legs only. The chairs on the side look very heavy to me. Maybe you could sell those and find chairs that have an open back to make the area seem less heavy. I do love your fabric chairs. Whatever you decide, do share with us once you do...

Thank you to everyone who provided input on whether to paint this table. I took the plunge as you suggested and painted the apron and legs. Here it is.
