I am seeing itty bitty ants everywhere, inside and out of the house.

Dan's of Central Florida, Inc. on Jun 23, 2011Hi Heather, My wife and I had sugar ants in our first apartment in Florida. First, you need to find what is attracting them and get rid of it and clean the area. If there's no food source, they won't keep coming in for snacks. What your husband did the right thing (it was the next step). Also spray by the windows (exterior) in the area you have the ants. I'm not sure what product you bought, so I can't say how well it works. Hopefully these easy fixes will work but sometimes a pest infestation just needs the big guns a professional can bring to the table. Hope these tips help, let me know!Helpful Reply

Heather D on Jun 23, 2011Thanks for the advice!! I'm positive there aren't any bug snacks, but we didn't spray the windows. If I know my husband, he bought the cheapest product available! ha! Can you recommend a brand that I could buy at a store? Thanks for your help! =)Helpful Reply

Dan's of Central Florida, Inc. on Jun 24, 2011Well Heather, when we were dealing with the ants, I bought Raid for ants and we set out ant traps. I know it sounds a little OCD, but check to see where they are getting in, spray the area and put out some little ant traps. It could be a small crack in the wall under the sink, loose caulk on the window, etc.. But they're getting in somehow. Maybe check the weather stripping on the doors, they are itty bitty so if there is any space to get through, they will. Good luck, let me know how it turns out!Helpful Reply

Walter Reeves on Jun 25, 2011Ant bait stations are by far the best way to kill a colony....slow but very sure. Look for Terro and Combat products.Helpful Reply

SawHorse Design Build on Jun 25, 2011Walter is correct. We tried Terro and the ants were gone within a week. It is a bit frustrating to watch them and wait for them to take the bait, but with a little patience they will be gone and won't come back.Helpful Reply

Keller Pest Control on Apr 08, 2012Heather what you have are called Odorous hose ants. They will come up the foundation adn look for harborage and food in the house. If they find a damp area they are good to go to move in. The treatment for them is relatively easy with the right products. We first of all find the source of the problem. follow the trails to the nest. Generally they will trail right up the wall outside and travel along the underside of the siding. Search outsuide for any rocks, logs landscape timbers , leaf clutter, mulch to find the nest. They can build the nest inside also. They are attracted to the electronic equip. computers , stereos, etc. the magnetic frequency is what they go to. Inside you need to use baits, we use intice or Advion ant bait gel. This needs to be treated in cracks and crevices where they are running. Keep away from kids and pets. Outside we use Termidor and usually get awesome results. It will take a couple of days but once it starts to work the results are long termHelpful Reply
