Just do it!
I glued a bunch of our wedding photos to foam board cut to the size of an old window, making a collage, then I just pressed it against the glass on the back, secured it with a couple of little nails and hung it on the wall. It was so easy and really made sweet farmhouse wall art.
There are a few kinds of window frame wall art. One uses just the window frames themselves. You would place several of them on the wall painting them however you choose - different sizes and textures make it interesting. I saw one this morning, but it didn't show up in the search. However, this one is the same basic idea.

The other kind that I've seen is to use one window frame, painted as you choose, then inside each pane is a decoration of some type. Some people use wallpaper, some use a blown up picture so that 1 part of the picture is in each pane and whole picture shows in the window. An example of that is here:
