Hi Catherine most paint brushes or rollers work with chalk paint just ensure like after mist paint jobs that you clean them thoroughly.

My favorite kind of brushes that I e tried so far are the Purdy brand that I got at Lowe's. I also hear a lot of great things about KlingOn brushes but they're a little expensive for me.
I do a lot of chalk paint and although the proper brushed are good as they have no bristle loss, they can be expensive fir Annie Sloane. although I have these, I have recently used a silky nylon decorators brush and I find the paint flows very nicely with this. Makes painting large surfaces a lot easier.
They make brushes for chalk paint. I have used a cheap chip brush and have had no problems.
i think it depends upon the look you are going for. I tend to not distress, and so I use a foam brush for a smooth finish. If you like the distressed look a chip brysh works well.
They sell special brushes..but I use any brush I can find that I can afford, as long as the brushes are soft.
Mostly I use the sponge ones. I have even taken chip brushes , cut the brushes off shorter..and used them for wax brushes.
