Lamp Shade--Paint, stencil, change all together or leave it alone?

I found this cute lamp on sale at Home Goods and love it on my new office desk. The lamp shade just seems to white and blah to me though. The lamp is not used for task lighting so I can go darker. What would you do?

Burlap with something stamped on it or metallic paint

Definitely want to go a little more homespun or rustic with it. I like Funnygirl's idea of burlap. Perhaps at the top and bottom edge stamp a border of a darker square to tie into your flooring.

It looks like you have a bee hive or birds or something back on that cabinet. Maybe a stencil to mimic that? And can you fill the glass part with something like pebbles? And I would add a different finial, too. Pretty room!

I love the hanging scale! Would you mind telling me where you got it? And the room is beautiful!

I'd put something on the shade like your other shade and maybe fill the glass lamp as mentioned. Lovely room.

Get another crochetted valance and affix to the outside of the shade. Cut to fit, stitch seams & hot glue to the top of the shade.

I wanted an elegant look for my lamp shade in my office, so I wrapped it with French wired ribbon going from top to bottom. I just hot glued the beginning piece on the inside and the end piece. The wire helps keep it from shifting. I added bead trim on the bottom for ones I did in my room, but in my office I made a simple rosette from the off-white ribbon I used in there. People compliment them all the time and want to know where I got them.

So many interesting things in this room! And I love the floor tile. My first thought was that the yellow tulips are the only color in there. How about a turquoise-y, beach-y blue lampshade in a different, more intricate shape?

I am probably way too late but I am one of those people who thinks every room should have something black in it and often a lamp shade is enough. The room is soft and pretty but quite monochromatic and a black shade would set it off nicely.

Hi Angela, hope this helps you out. You could paint the shade a color that matches your decor, or just tone it down by using a cream colored paint on it. You could even try this inlay method.

I would purchase a nice thick ribbon and attach on top and bottom. You can coordinate the colors with something in your room. a nice stripe would look great.

I know you want to do something with the lampshade, I am looking at it a little differently. I would fill the bottom glass part with seashells and leave the shade alone.
