chalk paint it
Water down some paints and rub it on and off to give it a weathered look. Consider painting the outside frame different. Hang nice tea towels.
Hang it by the door and use it for jackets, keys, caps.

include an old apron hanging from a hook if you use it as a kitchen item
Craft store sells crackling.you paint then add crackling & paint with another color & let set & it will crackle. But read directions to make shore to follow the directions ax its been yrs since I have did it. Good luck
It is pretty, as others have said, but you could add a length of crown molding, with a return on each end, at the top, as per these instructions: http://www.thisiscarpentry.com/2014/03/21/nip-tuck-22-12-wall-returns/ That, along with some distressing/crackling would give it a great shabby look.
