porches are as different as houses, so what may work on one would not on another. in the first picture here is one years choice. The shelf and stand are always there. We found many, many unpainted figures for Christmas at our town rock pile. I took maybe 100, gave many away and kept some. These are all santas. The lower picture is the porch decorated just with greenery and lights. If you post a pic of your porch it would be easier to give suggestions just for you.
Here are porch ideas.

Decorating a front porch is a personal thing. Some like a lot. Some like a little. This year I'm putting lighted wreaths on the iron railing that is across part of my small front porch. Then a Poinsettia swag on my front door. A lot of people like to put lights around their door. Some use a lighted Christmas Tree and add lighted Christmas presents around the tree or some put large lighted faux candles at the top of the stairs. A wreath or some kind of swag on the door is nice - as is a covering the front door with shiny red wrapping paper then adding ribbon and a large bow. You could also add an old fashioned sled upright with some old or faux skis next to it. If you have a tall vase, you could put some lighted branches in it and add a bow where they connect. There are so many things you can do that it's hard to make suggestions not knowing what YOU like. :)
