I would ask advice from a local garden center on what type of tree to get. I recommend digging the hole now and putting the tree there after the holidays. Generally you want to stay around 4 to 5 feet in tree height at the most.
A potted tree for outside seems to me too small for inside. A tree large enough to be effective as an inside tree would be very expensive and maybe too hard to handle. I would check with a nursery first. In the north east I favor a cut balsam tree for their scent.
Thank You caseyem! I will ask!
I'm not sure if your ground hardens but this is what we did. We live in New York.
We dug a hole where it was to be planted. This was advice from the nursery. Cover the hole with a heavy tarp. Put the dirt in the garage to keep it from freezing and clumping in the snow. After Christmas, plant the tree with the dirt and that's it!
We've had a tree grow for 24 years.
It is a blue Spruce.
Good luck
Great idea as well! I believe our ground will freeze. Time to start digging..😊..thank you!
