Pumpkins can take up a lot of space, you would need at least a half whisky barrel size pot in order to grow a few pumpkins. But it can be done! I would certainly give it a try. This link will help you out. Have fun!

Hello! You can also grow pumpkins in a growbag, which is just a large plastic bag filled with soilless organic material such as peat, coir, or composted bark, wood chips or a combination of both. In addition, here are some tips on growing your pumpkins. Click on the link below:

Make sure you have plenty of room around the pot for the vines and for the pumpkins to grow. A trellis may not be strong enough for the weight of the pumpkins. If there is a nearby fence you could run the vines low on the fence.
You can start them in a pot, but the roots will need more room to expand, when it really gets growing. You can start these, in Feb., inside, and then later after the winter is over, you can slowly take them outside. This way, you will have a head start on the other folks. J.
You can plant seeds in a pot but unless your pot is huge the vines will grow outside it and the pumpkins will grow on them.
