We put weather stripping on the door in the winter to help conserve the heat
I have an old house, and it probably won't matter how good the handyman might be, I have a feeling that when we replace doors we will still deal with things like this. There is a thing that goes on the bottom of the door. Its very inexpensive, and you can probably get it at Walmart or Target, or whatever store you have close by that has a home section. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Frost-King-1-25-in-x-36-in-Brown-Aluminum-Door-Threshold/4754192?cm_mmc=SCE_PLA-_-ToolsAndHardware-_-WeatherstripSoftGoods-_-4754192:Frost_King&CAWELAID=&kpid=4754192&CAGPSPN=pla&store_code=1159&k_clickID=cbb602b6-5e8f-4488-bc36-35278aea3475&gclid=CjwKCAiAx57RBRBkEiwA8yZdUFUmIuLgLkrysU6qZXS11Micicrlsxa7no9ASpKhJYuYIJQlYSfxIxoCKvAQAvD_BwE
We put one on two of our doors, and it helps tremendously
I am so sorry you had this happen.
the door sweeps that have fins on the bottom work really well. I’ve put duct tape or painters tape across key holes and out lets. Stops the cold air from coming in. Rolled up bath towel at the bottom of the doors, on window sills. You may qualify for weatherizing help. Give your county extension offce jingle. Had some college students come out to help me put up the plastic shrink wrap, weather striping. In the mean time, you can put up a plastic picnic cloth or shower curtain across the door and use the painters tape to seal it off. The blue tape works well...it’s low tack and hasn’t peeled any paint off.
Let us know what state you live in we'll give you agencies that can help you with your delema. They have volunteers, that help the eldery, and it's in the area of their expertise.
Call your local senior services, for volunteers to do work (pro bono) free. Order online at USA.gov, for a free book called Consumer Action Handbook it's free. These people do small repairs, that they have knowledge in. Depending on what problem your having, I would need to know this in order to direct you to the proper agency.
