There are brackets to hold rods together. Is the rod a older style with no center support?
there are curtain rods that attach to French doors, half on each half of door so each 'half' moves separately with the section of door you are opening...
Here is an article that might help - http://hydrangeahippo.com/fix-curtain-rod-falls-apart/
First double check that there are not screws which 'pinch' the rod where it sits in the brackets.... If there are, ensure they are tight and holding the rod.
Alternatively, the fix depends on the tools you have at your disposal, ranging from a glue gun (open up the pole joint a little, squirt a thin line of glue and then push it back together, rubbing away the excess once it's set) right up to drilling a hole in the pole joint and screwing in a tiny self tapping screw or even a pop rivet.
Get a spacer that will be in that area, where the rods come together, and then you will have NO problems. This can't be over 35 to 45 cents, or tape them. Just be sure you are not stretching the rods too far apart, for if you are, then you will need a new set. Or, you may want to get a pressure rod, and this will help you, also. Best wishes, J.
I bought a dowel rod that fits inside both pieces of rod to make the joining part secure. Works great. Be sure to measure the diameter of the smaller part of the rod and buy a dowel that will fit inside of it. Now, slip the bigger piece over the dowel and the smaller part of the rod! Voila!
