Has anyone used home made chalk paint? How did it perform?

I've made it and did not like the consistency of it (too thick) and you can't keep it for the next project. There is a great inexpensive chalk paint brand, Waverly - sold at Walmart in the craft department for $5.99 a bottle. Great stuff, I use it all of the time. No need to spend lots of money or buy all of the products to make your own.

I love when I make my own. I make just enough to use for a project.

I use clean margarine tubs to make about three cups at a time. I start with paint first, about 1 1/2-3/4, then add my chalky substance in 1/4 cup increments. I had so much fun trying to find small bags of cornstarch, borax, plaster of Paris, baking soda, and even uncooked oatmeal, grits, salt, sugar, baking powder. Since I have only done crafts and small projects so far, I knew if I didn’t like it, I could sand it down and paint over it. But I haven’t painted over anything yet. I have some “store bought” chalk paint that is really smooth to use. But it dries like cement on the jar lid. I recommend plastic wrap between the container and the lid in all cases. 😇
