How to hide air vent

Cheryl G.
by Cheryl G.
Would like some ideas on hiding air vent and still keep it open. I’m not crazy about this 58” tv but my husband got his way and I got my formal dinning room!
From floor to vent is 9’. Floor to top of tv 5’ 6”. Metal wall decor was used to hang Christmas wreath on. Will come down and The farm by Van Gogh goes up spring though the summer.

Hello. You could take a old decorative picture frame and remove the glass. Then purchase a sheet of tin with decorative cut outs. Cut that to the size of the frame and staple it on to the frame. Here is a picture of a tin sheet.

Buy a large metal wall art piece or several smaller pieces for the wall and cover the vent. Here is an example of a nice piece. You can find them at stores such as Ross, Kirklands, Pier One, etc.

I'd keep it clean, painted the same color as the wall and forget it. It is not obtrusive. It needs to be kept clear of objects on top so you don't obstruct the air flow. Due to where it is placed, just about anything put over it will look as if you are trying to hide it and also be unbalanced unless you can put other decorations on the wall to balance it.

It looks like you have allot of wood accents in your home, how about a nice thick barn beam shelf under it so it isn't being blocked? I would make it was wide as the distance from the outside of hubby's speakers on either side of the tv stand. Use a heavy duty rot iron bracket to mount it or wood but I think wood would make it look too heavy. If you use rot iron, you could put a bar attached to the bracket that is the same width and hang an old quilt, or new quilt to balance the space with the fireplace/mantle and art piece. It would be nice it if was a large enough quilt to drape behind the tv to the speaker height.

I might point out that blocking the vent is going to block the flow of air, hot or cool, in your home.

i don’t know how large you’re air vent is (i can’t see it in the pic) but buy a rubber door mat that is structured with mostly open air flow spots , spray paint it to match your decor and hang it over the air vent , looks great !

With the farmhouse design being such a rage right now I would use a louvered shutter. A louvered shutter replicates a vent and is light weight and pretty inexpensive if you buy it at a local home improvement store in a standard size . Add family pictures, farmhouse signs or a variety of things you love in different sizes to make it an awesome focal point. If you aren't into farmhouse you can change the style of the shutter by using different painting techniques (A satin or semi-gloss rich color to match your decor would make it more modern). Do an image search for "louvered shutters used for wall decor" to get some ideas.
