Mostly people build boxes around them or you can purchase premade ones if your carpentry skills and equipment are not up to it. If your radiators use hot water or steam for heat, there is no issue setting anything on fire, if that is your safety concern. If you have a different safety concern, please ask away.
Why hide them? I cleaned mine up and painted them white.

Yes radiator covers! One old house I saw had metal covers with a tray on the top to put water into combat dryness.
I saw some beautiful radiators in a gallery that were painted with metallic auto paint and used as tables with glass tops.
Years ago I had a house with radiators. I had custom covers made. They weren't all that expensive and worked great.
We always had the 2x2" wood frame with the decorative metal sheeting when I was younger, and never heard of anyone having a fire. They were always painted white, but I have seen a few natural wood with the metal sprayed copper.

If you paint, best use high temp paint from Rustoleum or Vermont Stove
