Why not use a skylight or a product we have in New Zealand called a Solar Tube (this would be the best & cheapest option ever). No need to change the door and the light floods in.
I was thinking skylight (solar tube) too. Cut hole in roof, just remember to flash and seal good.
Build yourself a storm door set up . Wood 1“ by 2” frame with a center opening / French door style. Two frames approximately two and a half feet by seven feet with at least one horizontal cross brace ( creates two glazed openings ) or two cross braces ( creating three glazed openings ) use the light weight plexiglass designed for storm doors for glazing. Hang on the outside. Hinge pins could be removed from the doors to allow them to be removed for storage inside when you are away for an extended time.
