You mentioned three times it's totally rotted out. You will probably just have to start over. If you go to a local Restore where you can buy second hand building materials you should be able to find several.
If you are getting new doors, get the main door with the door frame and replace it that way. It would be easier to replace it than repair it.
If you are saying the whole frame including the 2 x 4's that the door is attached to, you are going to have a little more work to do.
You aren't going to actually know what is really bad until you remove the door. Most likely under the threshold will be bad also. It is a one day job if you know what you are doing. You should have all your material there before you start tearing the door apart and make sure it is a nice day. Also have some one who can run for wood nails, etc if you need more. I have to change a door right now as soon as the customer says go. Same situation, rotted out and we know that the floor under the door is going to need replaced. Make sure you get the right size, swing and frame on the door. You can always add the storm door anytime. That is the last thing you have to worry about. If you are lucky and for some reason the 2 x 4's are a little bad, replace them. Any wet damaged wood will attract termites. If you go to Lowes, HD, ask how much they charge to install it might not be as bad as you think. They did one of our rentals when we lived in another state. It might be worth it for them to put the door in then for you to do it unless you are a good handy man. I hope you luck and hope I helped you a little. I could walk you through the whole thing step by step but I think you can figure it out.
You may find them at Restore, but your best bet would be places like Lowe's, Home Depot or Menard's.
My boyfriend is going to repair it. It does seem like you and I have the same issue. Very helpful info. I appreciate the good advice. Hope that’s all we have to replace
Your best bet would be to buy the whole door with frame attached. Just make sure you get your measurements right. I would have a professional hang the door if you can afford it.
You need to get all new wood and do the frame over just the frame and use 6 inch sheet rock screws so it’s safe
