Just to give you another option, you can install a new laminate right over your existing laminate too! Be just like a brand new countertop and backsplash.
Rustoleum also makes a counter top restoration kit.
Ive used marine paint. It's high gloss and very forsaking. It's very watery so maybe a quart is enough.
Haven't used paint to cover worktops would worry if you have to be super careful with them. You could use Tiles or Contact, but if you used Contact you would not be able to use a knife on it (would need worktop protectors).
You could always jazz them up a bit by using Stick on tiles here and there.
Or Mosaic tiles with Grout. Or Tiled board. Wallpaper on Cabinets, I have done to great effect........
