the doors- solid hard wood, hollow core ok...but it can be cut open. metal entry doors take a bit more work. keys can be cloned and lock pics abound. you can get a lock that contains a key pad. assign each family member thier own code. change the codes every so often -the keypad numbers wear down and some one might guess the code from the wear.
windows- get 2 sash locks installed on each sets of windows. there are metal decorative pieces to put over the windows some of those have locks also check on how easy it is to get out of in an emergency. the safety is in the fasteners. you need a solid base to mount to. have a fire alarm in each sleeping area. had my house broke into. had a fire alarm in the bed room, and matches for a candle. lit the match held to fire alarm....dude went out a window. he had hit others in the neighborhood. the glass had fingerprints on it. they picked him up the next day.
Exactly what do you want to know? The old saying is "your doors are only as safe as your frame/jams." Sufficient framing for a door is important for locks/deadbolts to work fully. Below is an article. I hope it helps.

If they want in bad enough they will find a way. By the time the alarm company get the police out there, they will have time to get at least something before taking off. We have an extra large doggy door for our two big shepherds and I dare someone to try to come in our house with four dogs, including an ankle biter and a chow that are really property oriented and don't like anything like critters or humans coming on the property they don't know. Hubby had a male chow years ago before we met that cornered a burglar in the house and neighbors called the cops when he heard him screaming at the dog. They had to call hubby to get the dog away from him so they could take him to jail. There are many ways to protect home and family now days with all the new alarm systems they have out now. In an emergency some of the locks and window locks and bars would be a hindrance to getting out of the house quickly due to fire, carbon monoxide or whatever and little kids wouldn't remember what to do, as well as even some adults.
