It might be that there is insulation on the ceiling beams that is wet. You need to get into the attic to check. You may also have a ventilation vent in an exterior soffit that is letting moisture in. If you solve the problem, use a Kilz primer to cover up the marks before you paint.
Likely water back-up from an ice dam on the roof. You need a roofer because protection from this kind of damage should have been applied when the roof was installed.
I would have a handy man, inspect this real way. Something has be causing this. J.
Also, there may be a area in the shingles that is not shedding the water, after rain. Just call the roofer, and ask him to check the attic, and then make a suggestion. Do not accept the first offer, but ask one more, for the first one, may be over charging you, and have a man handy, for a more reasonable bid on prices. J.
The moisture could be coming from anywhere in the attic if that wall is at the lowest side. We had a leak where high wind ruffled up the shingles and caused a leak. We had water coming in from there, and some of it came halfway across the house and come out in the ceiling of another room.
It appears water is getting behind the flashing that should be guiding the water into the gutter. It is possible the soffitt boards are rotten. Have a roofing and gutter company check it out and replace as necessary. Good luck.
this is really a question for an experienced roofing company
