Put lemon in it and grind. Cleans blades and smells good too!
Mix baking soda with lemon juice and let it sit for a while before using the spigot. Then throw a few ice cubes in to break up any food/debris in the disposal that my be adding to the smell. They will also sharpen the blades.

I use the same method as Fiddledd224, but sometimes I add plain white vinegar after the baking soda because it fizzes and pull out hidden gunk. Then I use the lemon and ice. You can freeze lemon slices or even lemon peels with water (use an ice tray) and have them ready to go when you want to clean your disposal. I hope that helps.
Slice up some lemons and throw in to chop it up. Cleans and smells nice. BUT...don't do it too often as the seals/gaskets crack due to the acidity.
Just put ice subs. Down and cut it on clean and Sharpe bleads
Once a month I pour Ice Cubes down the garbage disposal. All the nastiness gets cleaned off the blades and makes the disposal smell fresh.
I tried . filling the dis. with ice cubes pour 1/2 c bleach . let it crunch.
Its not baking powder you should be using baking soda, and maybe a little vinegar.
