with a sharp knife trim off the ragged pieces, the dip into a rooting hormone, and plant in a potting mix.
I root them directly into damp soil. Keep the soil damp, not soggy, until plants take root.

I’ve never used root hormone before, I just use a little Miracle gro in water. I only let about 1/2 inch stem into the water and wait for the little, fine roots to start them plant in the soil & add just enough of the miracle gro mixture to moisten the dirt. I just planted my 3rd generation geranium, from my first plant, and has buds ready to pop.
My son, 7 at the time, would get a broken piece, push a stick into the clay, add the geranium. We had the prettiest garden, thanks to him,
