How can I update aged, glass frames

My home was built in 1985. The glass sliding shower doors are in implacable shape but the ugly gold finish dates them. Can they be updated? On that note, there are also the original light fixtures that are in the same gold finish that need updating. they are all in great shape but really out dated.
