Homemade chalk paint, awful... Iam very good at DIY it is not worth the hassle or time, buy Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Or Shabby Chic Chalk Paint, fabulous.
The only time I make homemade chalk paint is to do small things like picture frames, or to do an initial paint job on something that needs the paint to adhere well. It does work well, but if you are doing something like an entire piece of furniture, and want a professional look, I agree, buy the chalk paint. But for small jobs, or first layer of painting that you will go over, here are some recipes using baking soda and other diy ideas using other ingredients:
