You must be doing something wrong, the heat of the gun is too hot. Call a craft store, and ask them why this is happening. AC Moore, Michael's or Hobby Lobby.
Let go of the trigger.
Pull back on the glue stick when you aren't actively using it. That should relieve the pressure so it doesn't dribble. I put mine on a silicone mat and I don't worry about the dribbles it never really dribbles much. mine is at least 20+ years old.
