Yes, give them two coats (drying in between) of Polyurethane. I had a man paint mine six years ago. That is what he used and they still look brand new.
I like to use at least three coats of a water based polyurethane.
non-yellowing polyuirthene
Spray poly.
As Janet stated; be sure the polyurethane states non-yellowing - other types of poly will yellow within 2 to 3 years, best of luck with your project.
