One way is to use 2 of those rolling stacked plastic drawer sets placed far enough apart for a chair to fit between them and a piece of wood or countertop as the desk top.
You can do the same with filing cabinets or buy legs for one side if you need the desk shorter in length.

I used 1 file cabinet at one end, a piece of oak from DIY Store stained it in ebony min wax, rested one end on the file cabinet and used a shelf bracket at the other end. Works like a dream!

You can use a dishwasher box, a moving box for hanging clothes or dish pack. These are very strong and can be covered with fabric, contact paper. You could add quilt batting to the box with a spray adhesive then fabric for a "furniture look" place either a piece of clear hard plastic / Plexiglas for a top. You can also use a used dresser cutting it shorter and use the drawer you cut off for a matching shelf for paper, pens and cup hooks under for hanging odds & ends, even a bathroom shower type organizer .
2 small filing cabinets or some type of matching bases (from old and/or thrift furniture) at desk height. Cover with small door or a shutter covered with with plexiglass cut to fit. Paint or cover filing cabinets; leave shutter exposed and be creative with paint or cover in fabric to match your decor
