I've used even smaller cans (with rocks in the bottom for weight so it won't tip over) and put the can I want to paint on top. That way I can get all the way to the bottom edge with no problem.
It takes a few practice cans to be able to do a perfect job.
You could put a dowl rod in them and then put the dowel rod in a jar weighted down
