Did you prime the ceiling first?
Did you put primer on first? like Kilz or Zinseer The only other thing I can think of is if the ceiling has an oily residue on it from oil heater, fireplace or cooking it should have been washed with a degreaser first. If it was painted with latex, and the original paint was oil based it will also not bond..... then get Zinseer B-I-N primer and when its dry then put top coat on.
You could try the primer in an area to see if it solves the problem..... when it drys if it looks good, then do the rest, then put on your top coat.
Overlap with the roller. It will eliminate the streaks. Also you may to use better quality rollers.
Hi. I am just going to put some questions to you because I don't know what type of situation you have going on. Did you use primer first? Are you covering a darker color? If you did not use primer and are covering a darker color then try Behr paint. It has primer in it already and should give you better coverage. Use a nice thick roller while you are painting. the guy at the paint store can help you or read the labels. I hope this helps.
Lisa is right. You need to keep a wet edge and overlap with the roller. Too much paint will leave streaks. Do not use a thick roller for flat ceilings. It will leave streaks. A 3/8 nap roller is sufficient. A 1/2 nap roller for textured ceilings.
I recently saw an ad for paint that looked like it was tinted when applied to the ceiling and then dried white. The problem I've had with ceiling paint, was missing spots.
My son used the ceiling paint that went on pink and dried to white....was a disaster....so streaked. Painted it over again with white ceiling paint.
Thanks for all the comments. The ceiling was painted prior to the recent paint job with regular ceiling paint. It has always been white. With some of these answers, I am thinking that the roller I used was too thick. Thanks everyone for your thoughts and comments.
No, it was simply a fresh coat of white ceiling paint over another. The last time I painted the ceiling was a few years ago. No prime needed.
