Depends on what Zone you are in, the soil pH. Check with your local hollyhock neighbors and see why theirs are growing so well

I don't see any growing in my neighborhood, as I take my walks! I'm in Lanc. Co., PA

I can't get mine to stop..I have dug them up and shares the seeds, but next year I will have volunteer s All over my flower bed. They are pretty, but I have so many other flowers. The combination I kept were navy blue/black with a creamy white and hot pink. Those three are specifically designed to look beautiful together. Lol

I am jealous of you now! They are such an old fashioned tall regal flower, & I love them!

Go to plants.com and check your zone they might not grow there. It'll also tell you how to plant & pH levels what kind of food to give it
