Painted brick wall

About 20 year ago, I had the brick wall/fireplace white washed. I loved it but hubby didn't so he had the painter paint it the same color as the surrounding walls. I want to go back to the white wash. Any ideas as to how I can get that paint off the brick and go back to the white wash?

Buy a masonary paint stripper and scrub with a wire brush. Put down dropcloths, wear goggles, read directions and air out the room.
It's messy, but possible. Take a look at this:

Strip it with paint stripper and a scraper, and wire brush until you get to the white. Add more white if the wash comes off.
As a last resort you MAY have to get a profesional to sand blast it. Then refinish it the way you need/want it to be.
