  • How about growing pots? Many herbs do well and pots can be moved around when needed. Just be sure to water often as pots dry out faster than in ground, especially in summer.

If you decide to go with terra cotta pots, put them on a tray you keep filled with water. The porous pots will absorb the water and keep the herbs happy.

Well, Terry, you've asked a very good question, but you left out a few important facts. How small is the space? -- Indoor or outdoor? -- and your source of light. For either solution, first know herbs need LOTS of light and most like warm temps. Some herbs (rosemary, basil and sage are a few) require a lot of room. BUT some herbs also come in miniature versions. So, if you can come up with a ladder type solution where your pots are on the rungs and top ones sit back and don't shade the others, I think you'll do fine. Always read the instruction tags, too. They can tell you a lot.

Pots, wooden or plastic planter boxes. If your not keen on plastic boxes paint them. Just make sure to have hole for drainage
