look up your average last frost. You can google it By zip code. That will tell you when you should be able to plant in ground. If your seeds have a few weeks to germinate..the seed pack will tell you how long for germination if the seed pack says takes 6 weeks to germinate start from the last frost date count backwards 6 weeks. That’s when I plant seeds for that veg.
usually 6-8 weeks before your last expected frost date, possibly 8-10 depending on the length of germination of the seeds you are starting
Check with your Master Gardeners' or Farm Extension Service. It depends on the last frost date in your Zone.
You want short and stocky, NOT long and leggy!
We are starting our in March. But we live in Oregon. Won't put the young plants out until May.
Depending on where you live but in zones 3-5 start in February
Thanks for your reply. How do I make them short and stocky? I'm trying to grow apple and birdhouse gourds. Is that the correct way for that type ? Do you recommend trellis growing for them?
