    Don't smoke in your car!

  • Wash the interior from top to bottom, get the carpets cleaned. If you can't do it, take it to a good detail shop, but get ready to pay. Keep charcoal in the car and the car vent clips do help. I have them for wet dog smell.

Wipe down hard surfaces with odo ban...if seats are vynial do them as well. Put baking soda on any carpet, let set then vacuumed out. If you have a hand held shampooer you can use that with clear water no shampoo.

After cleaning out the car put fresh coffee grounds in shallow containers in the car for a few days and it will take that smell out very quickly. Keep windows closed during the process and it should take only a few days. I was able to remove the horrible smell of rotting salmon out of a closed refrigerator that wasn't plugged in and left to rot in over hundred degree weather for about a week. After washing it out and putting the fresh coffee grounds in for a few days - no smell.

Ozone! Rent or borrow an ozone machine after thoroughly cleaning the car. Close up the car with the ozone machine in it. Run it on high for a couple of hours then leave the car closed up for 24 hours. After this, open up the car and let the ozone air out. It literally destroys the smoke at a molecular level. Nothing else will really do anything but cover up the odor.
