I saw on TV a long, flexible "snake" that is sold at hardware stores.
Vinegar and baking soda-just pour down at same time
Pour boiling water in for a start. Then baking soda and warm vinegar, poured slowly. There will be bubbling and foaming. Repeat as necessary.
Ill assume you’ve plunger-ed first. You can also try a Handy Snake from HD, which is flexible and cheap , to make at least a hole in the blockage so the vinegar combo can sort of get inside instead of just from the top
If you snake first you may push the clog further down the drain. Try the baking soda/vinegar first, letting it sit and fizz for about ten to fifteen minutes, follow this with boiling water to rinse it all down. It may take a few tries, but it should clear it. If not, the clog may be too far down the drain pipe for anything to reach it. Mine was almost to the pipe going out of the house in the basement and took a pros huge long snake to get rid of it. The baking soda and vinegar will not hurt your pipes, but will really clean them up like new. We have a pipe coming down from the sink in the kitchen above that is exposed in the family room. It has a cover you can take off about half way up. The plumber used that to make sure the snake was going down and not anywhere else. He was really impressed at how clean the pipe was from the baking soda and vinegar. This is a pipe that is as old as the house (1954). He got the recipe from me and said he was going to do this to all his drains and tell all his friends about it!
Put baking soda down drain. Then pour white vinegar in drain. It will bubble up, repeat the process if needed then use HOT water to flush. If it is really stopped up, you might have to let it sit for several minutes. But it will work if you give it a chance.
Baking soda followed by vinegar, rinse with very hot water. You may have to repeat.
We have used a plunger with good results, follow this up with Dawn blue dish soap and very hot water.
If really stubborn and you can't get it to plunge through, you may have to snake it.
thanks guys — boiling water, half cup baking soda, 1 cup vinega, followed by quart of boiling water 15 minutes later— drain cleared!
