I have a faded, orange patio umbrella in great shape otherwise.

Hi Barb, I'm wondering if it would be a situation where a fabric dye might actually work better then a paint?

If you have a spot in your yard (or driveway) that is just dirt so you can wash it away, a dye job might work fine. You could basically "pour it on" and then wash it away. I'm thinking it would work better then paint because paint will probably flake off or crack over time.

You could try vinyl paint, too.

Use Spray Fabric paint for exterior use

Sounds like this maybe the best solution!

I tried dyeing sun bleached fabric before, and it totally didn't work. Paint is your best option, unless you want to replace the fabric (and you are crafty or know someone who is); get an outdoor fabric paint. Anything else won't last or be weatherproof.

Sounds like my best bet, thanks!

I have seen where others have remade the umbrella cover, ah, no thanks! ๐Ÿ˜‚

I would dye it using Rit Dye in a tub. They have two formulas, one for natural fabrics and one for synthetics (DyeMore)..... https://www.ritdye.com/color-formulas/ Then I would give it a waterproofing treatment using one with UV protection.

Some people apply the dye using a spray bottle. Didn't realize it was that big.

At Home Depot or Lowes, they recommended Storm(?) Paint-blue. I just painted it with brushes (gazebo top) It has not faded. Been out there almost 4 years.
