On the web, better homes and magazin has an assortment of flower garden plans...you might find one there With the plant list
Bright flowers with long necks...like fuchsia, honeysuckle, zinnias. they love red. I found that red runner beans, sweet peas and morning glories attracted them and you can start from seed. The red runner beans especially...hummers would divebomb me in the garden when I was picking.😃
I don't know what part of the country you live in, but hummingbirds are attracted to red and fuchsia colors, especially those with abundant nectar. There are a few plants called Hummingbird Bush or Hummingbird Vine, probably for good reason :) Here in Central Florida, I have found that they especially like anything in the hibiscus family, honeysuckle, and anything that has bell shaped flowers that hang down, I guess it might be easier for them to reach the nectar. They seem to like the blooms on my aloe vera plants too. Until your blooms are established, you can hang a hummingbird feeder (I put red silk flowers around the base of mine) to get them used to the idea. Head to your local nursery or extension office, they would be more than happy to help.
They return every year for my orange trumpet vine...but I would not recommend it as it is extremely invasive depending on location and a pita to keep up with.

Depending on your growing zone, hummers will hit just about any plants with bright colors. They love my Red Yuccas. Look for a plant with a tubular throat that will hold nectar and water. If you want to go vertical, trumpet vines are great, too. Just be careful that you get vines that don't self propagate - or else plant them in pots.
