Looking for a bamboo ground cover in Florida.

Dwarf Mondo grass. It's short, hardy and has a dark green color. Will grow with once a week deep watering. Can't beat it. Now, if you're wanting a screen, the clumping bamboo is perfect. It will not run which is a good thing. If you get regular bamboo, you will be fighting it forever more. It will completely take over.

Bamboo needs to be contained or it will literally take over your entire area. It grows roots underground that come up EVERYWHERE. Unless you put it in a good, solid planter, don't use bamboo. Have you tried planting lemongrass? It is quite tall, (36" +) practically insect free, and will fill in quickly in a warm climate. If you want a fast fix, try a few tall arbors next to one another with a sheer fabric or sunscreen hung from the top and secured at the bottom as a privacy screen. Use grommets and wire ties to keep the fabric from fraying.

I've read that bamboo is very invasive. You can 'plant' a metal barrier with it to prevent roots from traveling, but I'm not sure how deep the metal would have to go. Again go to a local nursery. Even if one is not close, it would be worth the trip.

Check with a nurseryman or landscaper. Bamboo is uncontrollable.

I wouldn't suggest bamboo as others have said. I live in FL, my neighbor planted some and it ended up in my backyard. I spreads like wildfire and getting rid of it's roots is a chore that you will wish you never had.

Bamboo is very invasive unless you plant it in some type of container.... a galvanized horse trough would work and help control it
