Some petunias don't like full sun.....be sure to check that out before purchasing. Be sure to water them frequently and use fertilizer at least once a month.
In my experiences-The name brand petunias the “proven winner” and “wave“ are by far the best and most bountiful producers. I buy mine on clearance, they far outpreform the generics In flats or pots.
In order to keep them blooming, you need to pinch (dead head) off the blooms after each bloom has done flowering.
BTW: pinching off the expired blooms will also keep them from getting leggy.
Full sun and wind will dry out a basket like crazy. Even if you saturate the soil it will quickly run out of the basket. If you have the wire baskets with a coconut liner you will need a small layer of pebbles, then an open baby diaper and then the soil with the plants on top. You will still have to water at least once a day but keeping the soil moist but not soggy should solve your problem.
You need to fertilize the pots as the soil loses its nourishment very quickly. Petunias can be trimmed and they will come back full force. Water well.

Hi Rosey, Petunias need lots of full sun to really do well and not to much water. They're extremely water wise too. You can read more about caring and growing them here - https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/petunia/petunia-care.htm
