I don't like to bend down either... We are using the galvanized horse/stock tanks/troughs... ours are primarily the 2 ft tall X 2 ft wide X 4 ft long version... they are available from several local sources (in our area) for about $90... Tractor Supply and Lowe's also carry them here.... sometimes you can find them used and if they don't hold water anymore.. that is okay... just more drainage... if you have something like Craig's list in your area... look for the 55 gallon plastic barrels... they can be cut in half or just have the top cut out (leave the rim for strength) we put ours on cinder blocks to make them taller.
here are a couple more ideas as well... and if you want melons or cucumbers or squash... try growing them on a trellis
Only you can answer what size you need to suit your capabilities. I build mine from treated 2x lumber.
Some wood and perhaps a friend or neighbor is basically all you need for this great idea. Here's one you could try https://www.hometalk.com/diy/build/raised-garden-beds/raised-garden-beds-easiest-cheapest-16511691?r=1
Raised Garden Beds - Easiest & Cheapest
you might be better off to try a few on for size..some stores will assemble a few modes to show off the merch. what chair of the wood or fold down varieties lets you sit comfortably? that's the ht to use for the garden. you have option to make the sides of the raised bed into a platform style bench- no back on it. as to size -how long are your arms? you want to be able to reach the middle of the bed. measure with your fist closed take the measure , double it. and use that measure for length and width. my arm is 22 inches from fist to arm pit so 44-45 inches long/wide. is what id make.
if your wing span is greater make it larger. do smaller beds and more of them.
I agree with Dfm. You have to have them made to the size you can easily reach into from either side. You would be better off with more than one that is real long and narrow. I use real large pots for tomatoes and lettuce and they are easy to tend to from a rolling garden wagon that I got at Home Depot for 20.00 dollars. It has storage inside and a kneeling pad on top that makes it a good seat and it can roll from pot to pot and hold your hand tools, gloves and what not. For my herbs, I have ten to twelve inch pots on a wrought iron stand that keeps the six pots well off the ground. I put all my huge pots on wheels to be able to move them around if necessary. I make them with 3/4 to one inch marine plywood with really good metal castors underneath, at least four, and something around the edge to make sure the pots don't slide off. Make the raised garden as high as you need it to be able to sit and tend it comfortably for you, no one else.
vegetables can be grown in very large and tall containers with drainage holes so you will not have to bend so much
