How can I remove a magnetic door knocker from a metal door?
The magnet in the knocker has "welded" to the door and seems impossible to remove. I have to paint the door so if the paint is damaged its not a problem.
You would need to remove the trim that the door rests against when closed and then purchase special hinges to all the door to swing through.
It's all in the hinges, with springs to keep the door in the 'closed position'. Ask your hardware store owner for the type of hinge you should attach to the door. You will also need to take down the 'stop', the piece of wood that the door would fit against on a single hinge door jamb.
remove the stops then rehang the door on center hung pivots. If the door is light weight you can use self centering pivots that have no springs. They just let gravity do the work. These will require that your door be slightly less in height than the opening. The package of pivots will come with instructions that tell you how much smaller. These will be the least expensive as well as the most forgiving type of pivot.
