How can I remove a magnetic door knocker from a metal door?

Question

The magnet in the knocker has 'welded' to the door and seems impossible to remove. I have to paint the door so if the paint is damaged its not a problem.

Try using a scraper to get between the magnet n your door , then the only problem is how to get it off your scraper.

A metal Kitchen spatula coated with non-stick spray like PAM or something to that effect. Hold the door knocker, slide the spatula between the two and slide the knocker onto the spatula (or pancake turner, whichever you prefer)

Not all, but most door knockers I have seen, the 'knocker' part does not come in contact with the door but rather the body of the knocker. usually 2 screws is all that holds it to the door.
In this case, I would try a rubber mallet & tap on the knocker to see if I could break it loose from where it is stuck...a rubber mallet may leave some black streaks behind, but those will clean off some what easily....
If that does not work, my next attempt would be to place a piece of scrap wood or 1/2 or 3/4 inch doll rod up against the knocker & using a steel hammer, pound on the wood in hopes of breaking it loose.
with the oil already on it & (hopefully) soaking in, this just might work.
if that does not work, you may have to paint around the door knocker or paint the door knocker with the door...
