It’s basic grunt work....protect the flooring, have a mister bottle ready...take the cover off of any light fixtures wet down the ceiling. Start scraping. It’s even more fun if it’s been painted. After the fire at my parents house there was more smoke damage than actual burned bits, but to get the place closed up befor winter it was all hands on deck. i got the spray part...

From what I have seen on those TV programs, getting it down is not the hard part...just spray lightly with water and scrape off with a big putty blade. You can google this and get info on how long to let it set before scraping.

But, you have to remove all furniture from the room; do the work of getting it off while standing on a ladder; float out the ceiling after it dries; and then clean up the mess. (Make sure you have a ladder with full size steps so you feet do not hang over a rail all day!)

The main reason builders put up popcorn ceilings is because it was faster and easier...thus cheaper...than finishing out the sheetrock smooth...so you may find a bigger job awaiting you once the popcorn is gone. That is why they started charging $500-700 per room for smooth ceilings.

Make sure you put down good waterproof drop clothes; and that you have a lot of energy and patience!!!
