Use a pre emergent like Preen. It won't harm established plants, but if you plan on SEEDING new flowers, it will kill them also. That is the only way I ever keep up with any rocky areas I have.

you have to kill the roots. Pulling the weeds out manually may or may not work, I would smother them under mulch...no sun, no growth. Card board, wood chips..rose should help.

I have never had Preen Weed preventer cause a problem with any seeds that I have planted and I put it down right after I plant my seeds in my veggie garden. It is made to naturally prevent germination of weed seeds only, but you can always wait until the seeds have started to sprout up through the soil before you put it on seeded areas.

Spray the weeds with a 50-50 mixture of water and vinegar. It cleans out the weeds very quickly and is very inexpensive to use!

The sad events that take place are as follows, my front yard rock garden is next to a huge holly tree that the birds love to eat the berries and drop the aftermath all over the stones witch fertilizes the weeds to grow every season. I have tried and failed at every attempt to control this nightmare. I need new and better techniques.

Try to spot kill with vinegar and then apply a 2-3 inch mulch over the top.
