for the cats s scratching....clear packing tape set sticky side out. When they stop scratching there then refinish. Water spots...white spots.try vinager, if you have hard water.
you can try vaseline on the water marks, as for the cat scratches how deep are they?
To fix water spots and cover scratches try Restore-A-Finish. Wipe on with a soft cloth in direction of wood grain. Wipe off with a 2nd cloth. Wear gloves. $9.00 a can at Home Depot or Hardware store. A little goes a long way.
Try furniture restoration wax for scratches. Dry out areas that are white.
