To be honest it may work for doing the trick, but if you try Amazon, you will find some really inexpensive legs that you can just screw in etc that won't cause you to have to do all the work of fitting and staining etc?
Sure why not you can use whatever you like. Try painting them to make them more decorative or depending on you style wrap the wood with rope to give it an organic or coastal beach feel. Also try putting one facing front and another facing the side butt them next to one another to give the appearance of a corner them stain or paint.
Just make sure you put enough legs on to support the weight of the filled dresser.
You can if you like the look. If your crafty you can make them look a lot less like 2X4's. You could get fence post finials at the homecenter turn them upside down and use them for feet.
