Cover garden with artificial grass.
There is a product you can buy and spray on yourself that repels chiggers. Or you can mix 8 drops of peppermint oil into 4 oz. Of witch hazel and put in a spray bottle. It repels most insects. I too get chiggers and they are no joke!
