If it is an old piece, I wouldn't do anything to it. If not, you can rough up the smooth surface, undercoat and paint to go with your décor.
You need an accent table or plant stand for height. Shop second hand and thrift shops for something small that you can make over.
I agree w Nancy about not changing it if old. If u just want height look for a compatible stand to set it on. If u search for Asian stands for large vases u will find many to choose from. If u want to make something the site may give u some ideas.
I wouldn't paint and or cover the vase in any way, its a beautiful piece. Naomie has a great idea of putting it on an accent table, that's a good way of showing it off.
Now, if you still want to add materials inside you could always take a picture of it and visit Hobby Lobby or Michaels to find either silk flowers that would match the colors that are on the vase or find dried plants that wouldn't take away from the beauty of the vase.
What if you just did a simple spray of cherry blossoms with thin wood twigs....dont overload it so that the vase itself takes centre stage
I appreciate all the great advice. I love the vase the way it is, so off to Hobby Lobby and Old Time Pottery. I have a black asian stand to put it on for height. I think I'll look for tall bamboo, and white cherry blossoms. When it's done, I'll post a picture, and ask for your opinions. Thanks again, Darlene
