Window locks are not going to help if you forget to lock them. Have you thought about getting a dog ??? I live in a high-crime area also. I had two boys try to kick in the door in the middle of the afternoon when I was home. I got a German Shepherd !!!
Big obnoxious dog. How ever,,,my part Siamese pair of cats...they did enough vocals to chase off a would be thief. He heard the commotion and left. As far as doors, I really liked the steel doors I put in house no,2..a lot more difficult to break. Keep your windows locked, there are products out these days to make windows more secure..bars over the ones on the lower level.
Btw...dead bolts on doors...harder to break in. Some come with the lock set.
Deadlocks on your doors. Here in NZ we can get window locks that only allow the window to open only a little way, which are good Security alarms are ok if you are going out, but when you're going to bed, unless you have a emergency button by your bed, would be a bit hopeless. Maybe security lights outside as well. Hope that helps a little
First install deadbolts on every door, even the one from the garage to the house, and the door to the basement. We have 24, zones that are secured by a system, that if any one of these are opened a alarm sounds and the police are called. Try ADT, Sloman Shield, or Simplisafe. We have every window and door on our system. If you get alarms just on your doors, that's not enough. You'll have a password to answer if the alarm goes off by mistake someone from the company calls you for the password It gives you security, and the alarm can be on when your home.
